The Stock Market Only Goes Up?

It may be that I spend a lot of time worrying about investments for nothing.

It seems like you can’t keep the stock market down.

We all know that the market recovered within months of the COVID crash. And while everything kept falling in 2022, everything recovered within six months in 2023. It fell again for three months in the fall of 2023. And in a single month, it’s back up to all-time highs.

I follow a few market bears on Twitter (X) and feel bad for them. They think, “Finally! Interest rates are back to decent levels. Higher for longer! The stock market will crash! Recession is incoming! Look out below!”

And the stock market does what it does – marches higher. Interest rates? Fell from 5% to 3.9% fast.

I’m not saying the stock market can never go down, even for an extended period. But in the last 15 years, it has not been down for an extended period.

That is, in a way, depressing because it means you should invest in the index and forget about it. Forget about the ups and downs. Forget about picking stocks. S&P 500 and chill.
