Latest Investment Mix, December 2023

Before today, my investment mix was:

  • Index Funds – 44% (goal 50%)
  • Individual Stocks – 2% (goal 5%)
  • High Div ETFs – 14% (goal 25%)
  • Bond ETFs – 5% (goal 10%)
  • Cash/Money Markets – 35% (goal 15%)

I’ve doubled my investments in individual stocks in the last two months in terms of dollars invested! I’ve picked up American Express $AXP and Alibaba $BABA as individual stocks in the last two months. American Express is up 5% from where I bought it.

I took some of my cash and pushed it into YieldMax high-yield ETFs. Since I have not added to my index funds and bond funds as the cash keeps coming in, those percentages have started to slip.

The good news is that there are only two tickers in my entire portfolio in the red as of when I write this – SCHD and BABA. Of course, writing this is a jinx, and the stock market will begin to fall on Monday.

In December, I have a fairly significant financial purchase planned and expect my cash savings to be reduced by about 10%. So the cash numbers will change soon.

My current investment mix is as follows:

  • Index Funds – 42.5% (goal 50%)
  • Individual Stocks – 4.5% (goal 5%)
  • High Div ETFs – 16% (goal 25%)
  • Bond ETFs – 4.5% (goal 10%)
  • Cash/Money Markets – 33% (goal 15%)

Using new software to analyze my portfolio across 5 different accounts (across different countries) has opened my eyes to some weeds hanging out among the flowers. • Terrible Timing

About two weeks ago, I sold off a bunch of BMO ETFs and put almost all of it into a Hamilton Covered Call ETF that I thought was pretty well diversified. It’s part of my reluctant acceptance that I need to put some more risk into the portfolio, and I can’t sit entirely in cash/money…

  • So Much For Patience

Yesterday, I was talking about patience. Today, I reviewed my original post talking about the trade. I said I would aim to take 75% of the profits if I could. 75% of $1.09 is $0.81. Looking at this now, I think I made a mistake. I am not sure. Just on the option itself, which…
